Feasibility Study of Redundant Recreational Buildings
In December 2010 Snowdonia-Active were appointed to deliver a feasibility study and structural survey of two redundant recreational buildings, Bod Petryal (Denbighshire) and Hafod y Llan Uchaf (Conwy).
In 2008 The Hiraethog Partnership produced the Hiraethog Area Sustainable Tourism Development Plan. The report identified real potential for promoting Hiraethog for low volume-high value sustainable tourism, based around walking, cycling, riding, angling, watersports, activity and nature tourism.
The Hiraethog Area Sustainable Tourism Development Plan specifically identified Bod Petryal and Hafod y Llan Uchaf as having potential for renovation and re-use as buildings for recreation. This recommendation informed the feasibility study which had three main objectives:
1. Identify appropriate possible sustainable recreational uses including community and business opportunities.
2. Undertake a structural survey.
3. Provide indicative costs for:
- minimal works to provide a safe, wind and watertight useable shell.
- renovation works to provide a usable shell that can be subsequently modified to suit the identified future use/s by a third party.
