Not just selling the view (2015)

Funded by the Welsh Government Partnership for Growth Fund

A primary reason people visit the protected landscapes of North Wales is to soak in the fabulous views, however, these areas have so much more to offer!  We think guests to North Wales should go beyond the view; to touch, taste and discover the real North Wales.

This series of workshops & activity walks explored innovative ways by which tourism businesses can embrace the special features of North Wales to showcase the natural and cultural landscape to guests. Aimed at tourism businesses based in and around the protected landscapes of Snowdonia National Park and the North Wales Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Clwydian Range and Dee Valley / Anglesey / Llŷn).

Workshop Programme

Which way am I looking? (Natural Navigation)

Learn the rare art of natural navigation on this walk with renowned expert and best-selling author, Tristan Gooley.  Everyone knows it is possible to navigate using the sun and the stars, but the art becomes more challenging and, for a lot of people, more fascinating when we take a closer look at plants and animals – you can learn to find your way and enrich your journey in the process.

Bringing nature to your menu (Foraging)

Can your guests taste the landscape?  Make your menus unique by bringing in a hint of beach or hedgerow.  Join us on a foraging expedition and be inspired by delicious recipes using nature’s larder.

The shaping of Snowdonia (Geology)

Any walk be it long or short can be enhanced by a knowledge of the ground beneath our feet.  Paul Gannon is the author of the widely praised hillwalkers’ guides to geology and scenery, and Rock Trails Snowdonia, Lakeland and Peak District.  Join Paul on these guided walks to learn how geological processes have shaped Snowdonia.

Welsh language – a window to the culture

You don’t have to be a fluent Welsh speaker to love the language and appreciate the richness of the Welsh language culture both past and present.  This interactive workshop will enable you to explore & develop fun ways for your guests to gain an insight into the heart of Wales, through the Welsh language.

Not just selling the view (photography)

A great image speaks volumes about your business – but so does a poor one!  Learn how to take better pictures and use them effectively to market your product.  Join us for this practical workshop with a professional photographer and digital media addict, Ray Wood.

Linking businesses – adding value and developing new products (networking)

A mixture of matchmaking and creative thinking designed to bring businesses together to create new tourism products.  This workshop will encourage businesses to think innovatively about collaborating with others to develop and market new products.
