Sustainable Tourism (2010-2016)
Various Funding Partners
Under the banner of ‘Green Snowdonia’ we have undertaken a significant body of work relating to sustainable tourism. Working directly with tourism businesses we have shared best practice in order to reduce the environmental impact of the industry. We believe that by adopting sustainable business practices businesses can improve both the quality of their product and their bottom line.
We have produced a number of video case studies funded by Visit Wales, which form part of their Sustainability Toolkit.
Catering for Sustainability / Lighting for Sustainability / Insights into marketing a sustainable business / Sustainable bunkhouse accommodation / Taking Steps towards sustainability
We have written several business case studies highlighting the great efforts Welsh businesses are making to reduce the environmental impact of their activities.
Implementing sustainability initiatives – learning from the experience of the National Trust
Waterwise businesses tap into cost savings
In 2012, with funding from Visit Wales we developed a Lighting Audit Spreadsheet and accompanying guide to assist businesses in calculating the cost of lighting their business and calculating the payback time for investing in more energy-efficient light fittings.
In 2013 we developed an Environmental Monitoring Toolkit for businesses funded by Visit Wales. By entering their consumption data for electricity/gas/water/oil into this spreadsheet, businesses are able to establish and cost their baseline usage and calculate the potential savings from efficiency measures.
In 2014 Visit Wales commissioned Snowdonia-Active to write ‘Future-proofing your business: A practical guide to weathering climate change for the Welsh tourism industry‘
